This book completely changed how I view policymaking. Lottes not only educates but also empowers readers to advocate for policies that prioritize human rights.
A must-read for anyone passionate about human rights and social justice. Lottes presents an eye-opening analysis of the systemic issues in the U.S. and offers thoughtful, research-backed solutions.
Brilliantly researched and thought-provoking! Lottes provides a compelling case for why empathy and human rights education should be at the core of American society.”
I have read and recommend a recently published book by Professor Ilsa Solveig Lottes. Titled Quality of Life and Human Rights Policies in the U.S. How Our Two Political Parties Compare this book gives both helpful information on the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights and insightful analysis of how each U.S. political party addresses human rights issues. Professor Lottes is well qualified to investigate this topic with her academic qualifications and her career focus on Human Sexuality and the human rights of all people.
The main point of this book is that neither political party has a perfect record in supporting or violating human rights, but improvement can and should be a goal for political parties and political leaders as they formulate policy. Human rights principles need to be considered when making policy decisions. The pathway to this goal is through education of students from primary grades to university courses.
When comparing the two political parties regarding human rights issues, Professor Lottes shows a need for both parties and all people to become more empathetic toward the basic needs and human rights of others. The need for increased empathy is evident in all ten of the social issues she addresses. Of special note are the issues of homelessness, violence & mass shootings, health care, and immigration.
I highly recommend this book to political leaders, educators and those focused on any of the social issues addressed by the author. The book has encouraged me to read more on the issue of human rights and has encouraged me to examine my personal practices and decision making.
